Cleaning warehouse racks and floors

Installing labels is a time-consuming job, especially when it involves several thousand rack and shelf labels or hundreds of floor labels. However, on average it will take you three times as long to clean the surface. So it will not come as a surprise that most times cleaning is not done properly or skipped altogether. If you skip the cleaning stage, though, we can almost guarantee you will need to order new labels within a few months and that would be a waste of your money.

Proper cleaning extends the lifespan of your labels. Depending on the current state of your pallet racks or your warehouse floor, there are various cleaning methods that ensure optimal results.

New pallet racks

For new pallet racks, that have no labels or label residue on the beams or uprights, a soapy water and a tea towel will suffice.

Always make clean and dry sure the beams and uprights to make sure they are free of dust and dirt. This enables the adhesive to optimally attach itself to the surface.

Existing pallet racks

For existing or old pallet racks with adhesive redisue or leftover label fragments, we recommend using an alcohol-based label remover such as platenclene, isopropanol or a powerful industrial cleaner. Do not use benzene, as this prevents long-term adhesion of the labels.

Follow this by thoroughly cleaning and drying the beams and uprights with a soapy water and a microfibre cloth or tea towel.

Warehouse floor

Use an industrial degreaser to remove grease residue or tyre marks from the warehouse floor. Clean the floor well and allow the surface to dry thoroughly before installing your floor labels or floor frames.

If you have to deal with a very dirty warehouse floor, make sure to first clean it thoroughly with water and a scrub brush. Then use a wet/dry vacuum cleaner to clean the water and dirt off the floor. Repeat this process until the water is completely clear.

Crates and bins

You can clean crates, bins, trolleys, walls and any other surface to which you need to apply labels with platenclene, isopropanol or an industrial cleaner.
